My teacher always says... linky party and Freebie!

Today I'm linking up to Forever In First for their "My teacher always says..." linky party!

The whole linky party talks about the little sayings that we use in our classroom that we say so often, they almost become a motto. My classroom is no stranger to that! In fact, we even use some of them for transitions. One of my favorites is our "Open, Shut Them" rhyme:

Open, shut them,
Open, shut them,
Give a little clap, clap, clap,
Open, shut them,
Open, shut them,
Put them in your lap, lap, lap!

Then, by the end, they should have their hands in their lap and ready to go!

Another favorite was the classic "You get what you get and you don't throw a fit". However, after talking to a lady at my church, I came up with a much better version that I plan to use this next year:

"You get what you get and you're thankful for it!"

In fact, I'm so excited to use it in my room, I even made a little sign that I intend to use.

Hope you guys can use a few of these sayings with your class! And don't forget to check out the rest of the "mottos" by clicking on Forever in First's link at the top!

  1. Thanks Katie for linking up. I'm happy to have your company! I've used the " Get what you get..." saying. I like your new take on it!

    1. Well, a lot of times I would find myself saying "You get what you get..." when it was one of the kiddos' birthdays and they brought some chocolate, some vanilla cupcakes and almost all the of the kids wanted the same flavor. One afternoon, the birthday child's parent brought treats in and asked to stay for the little celebration. "Of course you can" I said. Not much later I found myself saying to the kids "Remember, you get what you get and..." "you don't throw a fit." The kids already knew the rest of the saying and finished it for me. It was great because they knew that they should be happy with what they get because it's better than no treat at all. But at the same time, I was a little weary of the "don't throw a fit" terminology. Hence the new saying!
